EnSky Launches Lemelson Foundation Web Site
[05/07/01] EnSky Corporation -- Rochester, NH. EnSky Corporation is proud to announce the completion of a new web site for The Lemelson Foundation. The Lemelson Foundation is a private philanthropy established by Jerome Lemelson and his family. The Foundation's goal is to stimulate the U.S. economy by providing grants to encourage the next generation of inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs.
The web site debuted on Tuesday, April 24th in conjunction with the announcement of this year's Lemelson-MIT award winners: Lemelson-MIT Prize winner Raymond Kurzweil and Lifetime Achievement Award winner Raymond Damadian.
Kurzweil, a famed artificial intelligence pioneer and futurist, is the inventor of the first text-to-speech machine and the first electronic synthesizer able to faithfully reproduce the sound of traditional musical instruments. His latest project is KurzweilAI.net.
Dr. Damadian invented the MRI, which revolutionized the medical imaging field, and gave doctors and patients a new, non-invasive diagnostic tool. Dr. Damadian's company, FONAR, remains a pioneer of MRI technology today.
The award ceremony was held in Washington, D.C. at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, and coincided with the debut of the Lemelson Foundation-funded "Nobel Voices" exhibit, a new exhibition celebrating and exploring the history of the Nobel Prize.
The new web site features information about the legacy of Jerome Lemelson, one of the most prolific inventors in U.S. history with over 500 patents to his credit. The site also describes the Foundation's national program affiliates, which include the Lemelson-MIT Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, the Lemelson Assistive Technology Development Center at Hampshire College, the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance, and The Lemelson Center at the University of Nevada, Reno.
A key section of the site, Innovation Exploration, features an interactive timeline exploring the history of invention, starting with Samuel Morse, and touching upon the innovations of Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell, through present day innovators such as Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak of Apple Computer. The presentation is used as a tool to outline the main goal of the Foundation: to inspire innovation in all its forms.
Innovation Exploration also sports a menu of movie clips, available in QuickTime? streaming format, featuring footage of college-level inventors, and interviews with some of the country's most renowned inventors.
