African-American Male Achievers Network Launches Website on Martin Luther King Day
[01/20/03] EnSky Corporation -- Rochester, NH A-MAN, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation based in Los Angeles, California, uses science and technology as a motivational tool for African-American and other minority students, boys and girls, between the ages of five and eighteen.
Since its inception in 1991 by founders Hal and Bettye Walker, A-MAN has helped many and now offers both National and International Programs all with the same goal; to advance the educational achievement, and intellectual and career development of African-American and other minority students.
The website has a Space theme which is logical, because of A-MAN co-founder Hal Walker's role in the historic laser lunar ranging experiment during the Apollo 11 mission, conducted with the help of Astronaut Buzz Aldrin on the moon. Additionally, A-MAN's National Spokesperson is Astronaut Dr. Bernard Harris, the first African-American to walk in space.
The website features video footage of that historic walk, taken from Hal Walker's "Attitude is Altitude" presentation, part of the "Innovative Lives" series of symposia held at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History. The video footage is provided through a link to the web site of the Lemelson Foundation, a major sponsor of A-MAN.
A-MAN, Inc will use their new website to reach out to potential grantors to help fund the programs and A-MAN achievers and Y-LAC (Young Lady Achievers Club) students in both National and International efforts.
